180 Steeles Ave. West

Presentation

The proposal prioritizes the improvement of connectivity through a network of new private streets, pedestrian and green connections, integrating the scheme into the current and planned built context for the Steeles Avenue West. The design establishes a transit-supportive development which aligns with the forthcoming Yonge Subway extension, located within 300 metres. Diverse programming will encourage and create a vibrant and sustainable neighbourhood, support employment opportunities and promote an active public realm. The proposal demonstrates excellence in architectural design and will deliver positive contributions to the emerging character of the Yonge and Steeles Corridor Secondary Plan Area.

The project, located in the City of Vaughan on the border with Toronto and Markham, forms a highly engaging policy context. A considerable number of development applications are currently underway, as the area is outlined for dynamic change and revitalization. This unique development proposal consists of six mixed-use residential buildings ranging from 16 to 45-storeys, contributing a range of new residential units, generous commercial and retail space and publicly accessible, private open spaces.

Weston Consulting was retained to coordinate the Official Plan Amendment and Zoning By-law Amendment applications for the 5.57 acre property, facilitating the approximately 2000 residential units.
