284–292 Plains Rd. E., Burlington

Presentation

Located on a major street, higher densities are desirable for this site, located between the Aldershot GO Station and the QEW Highway. The site is located at 284 and 292 Plains Road East in the City of Burlington. Surrounded by ample public recreation space, while being close to Lake Ontario, this design reinforces the shifting dynamics of a commercial main street. This project proposes an infill development of a 9-storey residential building with indoor amenity space. It includes a total of 156 residential units and 196 parking spaces.

The building comprises of a range and mix of unit types by integrating both rental and condominium tenures. The 9-storey structure shows a contemporary architectural expression while at the same time, complementing the existing low-rise context, as it steps back towards the neighbourhood at the rear. A contextually appropriate two-storey datum line reinforces the public realm, while utilizing dynamic façade paneling throughout the main mass of the building.

Weston Consulting was retained to undertake Official Plan, Zoning By-Law, Site Plan Control and Draft Plan of Condominium applications.
