LiUNA 183 Headquarters

Presentation

The LiUNA 183 Headquarters will support the growth and prominence of LiUNA, North America’s largest construction local union, and celebrate their reputation as a champion of workers’ rights. The proposed building implements the goals and objectives of the City of Vaughan’s Official Plan policies for employment areas and Green Directions Vaughan. The Headquarters will contribute to a growing employment area in the City supporting economic development and a vibrant working environment for employers and employees.

The 6-storey landmark facility will include modern workspaces, new community services for members, and a multi-use event hall. The client required large spaces for their membership to meet and review Union votes. The design includes generous courtyards which surround the headquarters’ entrances.

Weston Consulting provided preliminary site design strategies, organized and adjudicated an architectural competition to assist with the retainment of a project architect, and has managed the planning application and approvals process to allow LiUNA 183 to obtain the required approvals (Official Plan Amendment, Zoning By-law Amendment and Site Plan Approval) for development. This new Head Office will provide LiUNA with the opportunity to continue expanding their membership and support and protect their workers’ rights.
